Wall of Bricks (2016)
165 x 55 cm (total), brick 20cm (each, approx.)Gymsum, white silicone A wall is an inherently human construct—both in its conception and its materialization. It embodies the will to delineate, to define, to impose order upon space. In Wall of Bricks, the structure transcends its utilitarian origins, becoming a metaphor for the relentless landscape transformations in the region. Here, architectural ambition masquerades as progress, where the proliferation of futuristic forms seeks to allude modernity and identity. Yet, beneath this aesthetic veneer lies a more unsettling reality: the selective curation of histories, the suppression of dissent, and the erasure of inconvenient narratives.
Embedded within its disjointed bricks are submissions by artists, writers, journalists etc. for this work that include —banned books, articles, imprisoned voices, censored artworks—a quiet homage to truths that persist, even when obscured.
